Dr. Katie Sharp is a post-doctoral resident with Lakewood Wellness Partners. She earned her MA in 2013 from the University of Kansas and subsequently her PhD in 2016 from the same institution. Dr. Sharp completed her pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at the Central Iowa VA Health Care System, where she received specialized training in the application of cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Her graduate and internship training has afforded her proficiency in the delivery of individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and both psychological and neuropsychological assessment.
In regards to individual psychotherapy, Dr. Sharp uses a cognitive-behavioral approach to case conceptualization and treatment and is familiar with a wide-array of associated intervention strategies. Her clinical strengths reside in the treatment of anxiety and stress-related disorders, although she has experience working with individuals with a variety of presenting concerns. From a clinical research perspective, Dr. Sharp is interested in how both mindfulness and self-compassion affect the brain and associated implications for treatment outcomes in psychotherapy. She regularly emphasizes these pertinent components in her therapy sessions.
